LEX13 — mark sheet

The 2026-10-26 master (woodcut room, hooded watcher, dripping ink) taken apart and rebuilt as a working identity system: extracted wordmark, traced vector, watcher icon, favicon ladder, five tonal treatments, four lockups. Everything below was derived programmatically — no hand redrawing — so the whole set regenerates when the master changes.

Master artwork

The single raster everything else is cut from: 1024×1024, one ink value and one paper value. That two-tone structure is why extraction works at all.

02 · extracted

Wordmark, cut from the art

Ink separated by luminance threshold, thin wood-grain streaks removed by morphological opening, then the letters' own drips pulled back in with geodesic reconstruction — so the drips survive without dragging in the room's frame. Transparent PNG, three grounds.

Use: the wordmark alone is the masthead. Keep the drips — they're the whole argument for using this art instead of a stock condensed bold.

Vector wordmark

39 closed paths, 9.8 KB, fill="currentColor" so it inherits whatever ground it sits on. Marching-squares trace + Ramer–Douglas–Peucker simplification.

Honest limit: corners are polygonal, not bezier — fine on screen, redraw by hand before it goes on print or an engraved sign.

04 · icon

The watcher

Head crop, square, no lettering — the mark that works when there's no room for a word. Two-tone mono variant holds the eye-glow at 16 px, which is the only size that matters for a favicon.

Favicon ladder

Shown at true size, then upscaled for the two large formats. 16/32/48 use the contrast-crushed mono; 180/512 keep the sickly green because at that size the colour is the identity.

Tonal treatments

Same plate, five registers. Block print is the one to watch — two levels only, it survives photocopying, embroidery, stamps and 1-bit printers, which is a real constraint for a local-news zine. Reverse/paper is the daylight version for anyone who prints this on cream stock.

Mark + hairline + mono caption, set in DejaVu Sans Mono because the site's body type is monospace — the lockup should not introduce a voice the page doesn't speak. The 1200×630 is the card every link to lex13.xyz will actually render.

  • Clearspace: one cap-height of the “L” on all sides. The drips count as the mark — don't crop them for tidiness.
  • Minimum size: wordmark 120 px wide; watcher icon 16 px (mono version only).
  • Never: green ink on green paper, drips flattened by a drop shadow, the hooded figure used with the wordmark cropped to a rectangle.
  • On photography: knockout cream wordmark only, never the full art.
